Hello. I am Roma. A girl in her 30's, an anxious Libra who wants to eat as many figs as she can but has chosen a few for now and lets her curiosity take her through the roads, old and new. 'Aamad - The calling' is something no one can escape, and the only way to be yourself is to do what keeps calling you.
For me, I write personal reflections in the form of prose and poetry. I read everything under the sun, understand some, retain a few and eventually forget all. Sometimes I photograph flowers and smell them; any fragrance remotely related to Jasmine is my weakness. I am friends with a local cat, Chonky; she likes me and lets me pet her. I watch a lot of movies and TV; I can almost, every time, find the killer or know who is turning undead in a zombie movie. I love acrylics as a painting medium. I have, inconsistently, taken myself to train in Hindustani Classical Vocal and Sitar. Yaman is my favourite raag. I taught myself macrame. I started my first art and craft business at the age of 25 called Roma's Hope Shop in London. I taught Science to school kids once upon a time, and also taught macrame workshops. I have been in and out of anxiety spells, spells that sometimes confine me to my home or to some dreary place unknown.
Mumbai has become a new home, and I am learning to navigate this city and myself with the assistance and companionship of my partner Dhavnish. Finding courage and seeing the bright side of life, finding hope when it feels like there's none; to live for the hope of it all, is what I tell myself. With that, I am bringing myself here to share about me and my creative pursuits, bringing many objects born out of this process; some made by me, some inherited, some collected or bought.
The Brighton Side means 'the side of town where the joy lives', named after a city called Brighton in the UK. This city felt like a warm hug, and the time spent at the pebbled beach held me and healed me during rough seas. I hope we can be your brighter side.
